Transplant

If your confidence has been affected by baldness or hair loss, then don’t worry because you are not alone. Studies have shown that around half of all men will experience some kind of hair loss by the time they are 50. Luckily, there are a range of hair loss treatments that produce natural results for a lifetime of confidence!  The Cosmedicare experts will be able to discuss the different options available and decide the best course of action depending on the particular case.

A hair transplant procedure usually involves a local anaesthesia prior to using a sample of donor dominant hair (found around the back and sides of the head), and then surgically transplanting it to the areas of the head where balding has occurred. The procedure causes little to no pain for the patient. Once transplanted the hair will have the same ability to grow as before, allowing the patient to once again have a full head of hair.

Cosmedicare offers four types of hair transplant procedure, which suit different situations.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): A very simple method, and one that is popular. FUE will involve lifting donor dominant hair in groups of two or three strands at once, in order to match the way the human hair naturally grows. The surgical cuts are minor and minimal scarring will occur.

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT):  A method more suited to extreme cases of balding. FUT involves removing sections of the donor dominant hair in strips and then transferring these strips to the balding areas. FUT requires a longer recovery time, especially if more than one graph is performed during the surgery.

Direct Hair Implant Technique (DHI): This method is regarded by healthcare professionals as the most advanced option in hair transplantation. Hair follicles are picked one by one and are immediately redistributed to the affected area using  a DHI implantation tool.

Palette-rich plasma therapy (PRP): A non surgical procedure where concentrated plasma rich in nutrients from your own blood are injected into areas of the head affected by balding. It is a safe and effective way to reverse the balding process and activate new hair growth.

FAQs

How will my surgeon know what technique is suitable for me?

The expert surgeons at Cosmedicare will be able to make a decision on which technique is most suitable depending on the degree of hair loss you are facing. However some techniques tend to be more universally suitable such as follicular unit extraction (FUE). This information will be explained to you in more detail during your free consultation.

Is it normal to lose hair?

Male pattern baldness, the most common cause of hair loss in men, is caused by a hormone called DHT. This hormone shrinks the hair follicles located on the top of the head and causes the common hair loss patterns. Whilst this is the most common reason for hair loss there are other factors that can contribute to this condition, your surgeon will discuss with you other reasons you may be balding during your free consultation.

Will I experience pain during the procedure?

Your procedure will most likely be performed under a local anesthesia and as such you should feel no pain at all during your transplant procedure.

Can I have multiple transplants?

Yes, there is scope to have more than one transplant, however, these can result in various degrees of success.

What should I expect during recovery?

Your skilled Cosmedicare surgeon will take extra care to ensure your scar is concealed in an effective way. For instance,  Follicular Unit Hair Transplants will only be detected during close up medical examinations. The donor site however will have a fine scar hidden by your hair. You will most likely be able to return to work after a few days, for more intensive procedures such as FUT, you may require a week off work. You must keep your head covered from the sun by staying indoor or by wearing a hat.
