Beard Hair

Transplant

A hair transplant performed on the beard area is a procedure becoming popular particularly amongst younger males who wish to have their beards look stylish and in fashion. However, this procedure is also suitable for older males who wish to make their beards more distinguished and sophisticated, in turn boosting their overall confidence.

The surgeon will design the beard area in line with the patient’s specific needs, paying special attention to the symmetrical outline of the beard. Depending on the type of hair transplant technique used, the number of hair follicles needed are extracted from the donor dominant hair (usually found at the back or around the sides of the head) and then transplanted into the beard area. The newly implanted hair will grow throughout the patient’s lifetime, giving them a fuller beard look. The experts at Cosmedicare will be able to advise you on the best technique for you in order to achieve the most natural result.

The techniques available vary in terms of recovery time and scarring. Cosmedicare offer the four following techniques:

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): A very simple method, and one that is popular. FUE will involve lifting donor dominant hair in groups of two or three strands at once. The surgical cuts are minor and minimal scarring will occur.

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT):  A method more suited to extreme cases of balding. FUT involves removing sections of the donor dominant hair in strips and then transferring these strips to the balding areas. FUT requires a longer recovery time, especially if more than one graph is performed during the surgery.

Direct Hair Implant Technique (DHI): This method is regarded by healthcare professionals as the most advanced option in hair transplantation. Hair follicles are picked one by one and are immediately redistributed to the affected area using  a DHI implantation tool.

Palette-rich plasma therapy (PRP): A non surgical procedure where concentrated plasma rich in nutrients from your own blood are injected into areas of the head affected by balding. It is a safe and effective way to reverse the balding process and activate new hair growth.

FAQs

How long do beard transplants last?

Regardless of the type of procedure performed, within a few months, the transplanted hair follicles should be settled into place and growing. You’ll know the beard implant was successful if, at 8 or 9 months, you have a full, healthy beard that you can treat as though it had been there all along.

Is the procedure painful?

As with the hair transplant on the scalp, this procedure is practically painless. Most of it is done with FUE hair transplant technique, where the surgeon collects the follicular grafts needed for this procedure.

When can I return to normal day to day activities?

You will be able to complete day to day activities such as driving after just a few days rest, although you should take care when washing your face. It is important to consider that you may need to wait up to a full year before the final results can be appreciated.
